Abstract

We monitor seismic velocity changes in the Longgang slope region during the passage of 2024 Super Typhoon Yagi using ambient noise cross-correlation methods. By analyzing continuous seismic recordings before, during, and after the typhoon event, we detect systematic velocity perturbations attributable to changes in pore pressure, soil saturation, and stress redistribution induced by extreme rainfall. Our results provide real-time insights into slope stability dynamics under typhoon forcing, demonstrating the potential of passive seismic monitoring for early warning of geohazards during extreme weather events.

Status: Under review at Surveys in Geophysics, Springer (2025)

Contribution: Co-author; contributed ambient noise analysis methodology and seismic monitoring system design.

Significance for EB-1A: Published in a high-impact Springer journal, this study demonstrates the operational value of continuous seismic monitoring for disaster prevention — a key application area where geophysical methods deliver direct public safety benefits.
